An application for a storage site for gas drilling byproducts has been filed with the state gas commission and the ADEQ.  The Daily Citizen is reporting that the permit was filed by Poseidon Energy Services out of Little Rock. At issue, a proposed waste water storage site on Highway 124 just east of Pangburn.

It works this way; underground tanks would store salt water brine from drilling sites in the area and house over 400,000 gallons of waste salt water around 2,000 feet under ground. Rex Robertson with the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission says the tanks would be well below the water table for fresh water.

That being said, some residents in the area are concerned about salt water seepage from the tanks possibly contaminating the drinking water and the Little Red River.

Concerned citizens have 15 days to file a complaint with the ADEQ to show they would be adversely affected by the proposed dump site.
