If your bank has changed names recently you are not alone. A massive consolidation and buyout among area banks are currently underway. Phillip Baldwin, CEO with Southern Bancorp tells the Arkansas News Bureau it is a trend that will continue. Just yesterday, First Arkansas Bancshares Inc. of Jacksonville announced it will acquire Greers Ferry Lake State Bank of Heber Springs, which will now become part of First Arkansas Bank & Trust. Other recent bank mergers include; First Security Bancorp of Searcy taking over Union Bank of Benton.
