Judsonia Man Dead After Stand-Off with Police
A White County man is dead after refusing to cooperate with local and state police in a Judsonia neighborhood.
According to the Arkansas State Police report, Charles Adrien Martin, 40, of Judsonia was the subject of a complaint issued by a neighbor around 8 p.m. on Monday.
The caller reported a man living in the area had been making threats to neighbors.
Upon arrival, Judsonia Police attempted to make contact with Martin who, shortly after, proceeded to exit his home and open fire.
Additional law enforcement officers were quickly called to the scene, however Martin refused to come outside to meet with officers and sheriff's deputies. The Arkansas State Police SWAT team arrived shortly after 10 p.m. to assist with the situation however communication attempts with Martin still went unanswered.
At approximately 1 a.m. on Tuesday, a State Police robot was used to gain entry into Martin's residence where the suspect then opened fire on the device and then directed gunfire toward officials.
State Troopers with the SWAT team returned fire, wounding Martin who was later pronounced dead at White County Medical Center.
The incident is currently under review by the State Police Office of Professional Standards and will be investigated to determine if the use of deadly force by law enforcement was consistent with applicable state law.
