The Arkansas Arts Center’s Artmobile, a 40+ft mobile gallery containing original works of art from the Arts Center’s permanent collection will be at the Searcy Art Gallery (300 East Race Ave.) on Monday, June 18, through Friday, June 22, 2012. The hours are 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each day.

The Artmobile, one of the nation’s only mobile galleries of its size, showcases an all-new exhibition – Faces & Places. The Artmobile attempts to be a travel-size version of the Arkansas Arts Center, bringing art to people who cannot regularly visit an art museum.

While it is impossible to represent the full breadth of the Arts Center collection, this current exhibition aboard the Artmobile is an overview of the kinds of objects you can expect to see in the Museum.

The exhibition includes works in all mediums that are always thought-provoking as well as aesthetically pleasing. This new exhibition features portraits and landscapes that are abstract and evocative, real and imagined, familiar and strange. The works are placed in the context of social studies, language arts, and visual arts.

Faces & Places will allow you to explore art, culture, history, language, science, and even math through portraits and landscapes.

Drawings, contemporary crafts, paintings, photography, and prints are all included in this exhibition.

“The Artmobile provides a quality visual arts experience that is great for schools, colleges/universities, festivals, special events, museums, libraries, and because it is a mobile gallery, it is a wonderful way to introduce audiences to fine art in their own communities,” said Ned Metcalf, State Services Manager at the Arts Center.

The Artmobile exhibition is available to be viewed on the Arts Center’s website: www.arkarts.com under “Touring Programs for the Community”.

In addition to images of the exhibition, active lesson plans are available on the site.

Grant support is provided through the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Season sponsors include: Bank of America; Horace C. Cabe Foundation; The Brown Foundation, Inc., of Houston; Stella Boyle Smith Trust; Centennial Bank; Union Pacific Foundation; and Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas.

Arkansas Arts Center is extremely grateful for the valuable support and contributions to the Artmobile by the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation. Locally, this Artmobile tour is sponsored by the Searcy Arts Council and the City of Searcy, Parks & Recreation Department.

In addition to the Artmobile, the Arts Center’s State Services Department also schedules Traveling Exhibitions from the permanent collection and three professional children’s theatre productions by the Children’s Theatre on Tour.
