Race for the Cure with the Searcy Team! Organizations and individuals throughout Searcy are uniting to participate in the 2010 Komen Arkansas Race for the Cure. The race is Saturday, October 16 at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Little Rock. Groups already signed up with the Searcy Team include GymStars, Family Practice Associates and the Searcy High School Girls’ Cross Country Team. The deadline to join the Searcy Team is Friday, October 1. Registration for the Searcy Team will be done online again this year. To register as a Searcy Team member, log onto www.komenarkansas.org and click on “Komen Race for the Cure;” then, click “Register,” click “Join a Team.” Next, select “Search for a Team” and type the phrase Searcy Team in the search bar and select “Join.” Then, go through the six registration steps. The fee to register for the race is $26. Participants can sign up for either the Women’s 5K Run/Walk, the Family Fun Walk (2K) or the Three Miles of Men. The Komen Foundation has a fixed number of official race T-shirts and will process registrations on a first-come, first-served basis, so they strongly encourage team members to register online. Also, participants who sign up as a Searcy Team member will receive a Searcy Team T-shirt in addition to the Race for the Cure T-shirt, which can be picked up at White County Medical Center. Funds raised through Race for the Cure benefit women in Arkansas by providing education on breast cancer, free mammograms, medical treatment for those who qualify and support groups. A portion of the funding also goes to leading research to find a cure. WCMC is excited to help unite the Searcy community in the fight against breast cancer.
